This month's "Notes from the Rally" is the transcript of a speech given by M. R. Framboise before a protest in solidarity with the over 300 000 Haitian immigrants who had their temporary protected status revoked by the 2nd Trump Administration.
TRANSCRIPT : : Speech at the Protest for Solidarity with Haitian Immigrants
August 8, 2026
Good Afternoon everybody! My name is Rosalina Victorian-Framboise and I'm a member of the Freedom Road Socialist Organization. We are a national organization of revolutionaries fighting for socialism here in the United States, and we're gathered here to show our eternal support and solidarity with all people of immigrant backgrounds and in particular the Haitian community who has faced relentless attacks against their immigration status by the second Trump administration. This racist, reactionary, and ass-backwards administration has set its sights on 350,000 people whose only crime is being minorities in this country. The White House wants to sick their blood-thirsty ICE and CBP dogs on these people without rhyme nor reason, but we are not going to let them do that. We know that a united people cannot be defeated; we know that popular power triumphs over capitalist demagoguery, and we know that organization and solidarity are the key to building a strong, harmonious, and "people first" society.
We don't believe that it's right or just to force people out of their livelihoods just to fulfill some chauvinistic fantasy! We don't think that innocent people should be tracked day and night with ankle monitors, and we certainly don't think that they can drag away our neighbors, brothers, and sisters without a fight. And truth be told, if there is any group of people that would know that populations can't be subjugated without a fight, it would be the people of Haiti. The Haitian people were daring to struggle and daring to win when the United States barely had recognition. Let me tell you a little secret: the powers that be are terrified of Haiti and its people because they know that if Haiti can kick their French oppressors out of power, so can every oppressed people--- so can the workers and nationally oppressed of this country! When the imperialists and their puppet, Donald Trump, violently suppress the peoples of this country, we must remember that--- like Toussaint Louverture said, "[they] have cut only the trunk of the tree of liberty. It will spring up again for its roots are numerous and deep." The roots of liberty in this country are in all of these movements. They are in the union stewards on the shop floor. They are in the student struggles on every campus. They are in the fight against police brutality, and they are in the fight against ICE's deportation-death machine!
The Freedom Road Socialist Organization will stand with the immigrants of this country until their is no longer breath in any one of our bodies! When we talk about building socialism, we're talking about building a country--- nay a world--- where the working people of this country can mandate how it is run. And we stand to resist any and all attempts to suppress and muffle the reverberant chants of a people yearning to breathe freely! We will stand side-by-side, in and amongst, the great peoples of this world as the fight to overturn the order that oppresses billions!
Now the last thing I want to say is a little bit personal. Now the last thing I want to say is a little bit personal. And for the Haitian [people], I'm sorry because I know that the Creole languages of Louisiana and Haiti are different, but I've been thinking that we should try to speak in our language[s]. I need you to understand that there is a place for you in this country. You don't need to do this by yourselves. You all are our brothers, our sisters, our comrades! They are scared of you because they know that Haiti is strong and that the people of this country see Haiti like a star! We are here with you! Y'all beat France, and you all will beat the United States! The only thing that you need to know is "Haiti will not perish!" "Haiti will never parish, and the Haitians will not perish!" When you organize yourselves, we will be there at the same time!
